The last time I saw this baby girl, she was brand new to the world. Now she is smiling, laughing, waving, clapping, almost crawling. Although I hear that just days after this session she decided it was time to get a move on!

The youngest member of the T family arrived just eight months ago. Recently I caught up with them to get some photos of them now that baby girl is coming into her own and they have settled into life as a foursome.

Two sisters about 4 years apart is a sibling dynamic I am VERY familiar with. My daughters, and my sister and I, are right around there, too.

Big Sis, as is typical of most sessions that involve 4 year olds kids, was on the move the whole time. I was so glad I got to capture a few still moments with her because, as you can see, she is gorgeous.

Old Friends, New Babies (2 of 2) | Family Photography

A run of kid ailments at my house have slowed me down lately, but I definitely wanted to go back to share some photos from earlier this month that I was especially happy to be a part of. The new mom in this series is a great friend of mine who I’ve known since high school in Georgia. We somehow both ended up in living in Milwaukee when we were newlyweds and when I first became a mom. I was thrilled when I heard she was expecting her first baby, and even more excited when it worked out that I would get to meet the him at only four weeks old.

It has been said that friends are the family of our own choosing, and I am so grateful for those who hold that place in my life, and especially those who I have been in my life for many years. It is amazing to go from being children together, and then grow, encourage, and support each other through the many stages of life that follow. Even if we only get to see each other every few years now, I was so happy to get to visit my old friend as she enters into this newest phase of her life and family. THANK YOU, C! I love you, loved catching up with you, and am honored to have been able to take these photos for you.

Had to get one in of the other baby.

I recently returned to our last home before Jacksonville. It was wonderful to feel the cool air, visit our old neighborhood, take a stroll on Lake Michigan, and especially see some great friends and meet the newest additions to their families (more of this in a post to follow).

I especially love these of baby and mama.

Be warned: this is a LONG one!

Between the beginning of summer and the near demise of my computer, I have let the blog sit idle lately. I thought it was worth backtracking a bit to share some of the images from one of the most amazing photographic opportunities I’ve had so far, capturing the birth of a child.

This was mama’s first baby. She was so sweet and concerned for all her visiting friends and family that she barely got any sleep for herself before the main event. I was a little worried for her. I kept thinking, “Sleep! This might be your last chance to get decent sleep for a long while.”

In addition to her husband, doctor, and great nurses, mama had a doula to guide and care for her.

I needn’t have worried. After finding the strength she needed to push for 3 HOURS, baby boy arrived with the sun.

I sometimes think that I overuse the word honor to describe how I feel about being invited into the homes and lives of my clients. In this case, I’m at a loss to think of better word. What an honor to be there, to be asked to capture this monumental moment in a family’s story. I’m still amazed.

First a little business…
ATLANTA DATES: I will be available for sessions in and around Atlanta from June 14 to 18, and again from July 5 to 11. Call or message me if you are interested in discussing or reserving a time slot!
MOTHER’S DAY is THIS Sunday. Do you have a present yet? Gift certificates are available in any denomination and can used towards session fees, or prints (for future or past sessions).
This grandmother called me a few weeks ago in anticipation of her daughter’s visit and her two grandchildren being together at her Ponte Vedra home. I’m always thrilled to get to photograph not just one, but several branches of a family’s tree. Lots of family means lots of pictures, here are a few of my favorites.

Three things about this boy:
1. He’s got some of the biggest, roundest eyes I’ve seen in a long time.
2. He was a Cubs fan in the womb. At least, he better have been!
3. His family ADORES him.
I got to be a guest at his first birthday party and then followed up with a quick session at home the next day.

…that is what this baby girl’s name means. She is the newest member of my extended family. Lucky for her that she is so photogenic, because T and I joke about how the rest of the family’s photos are always so great, that they look like the sample photo that comes with the frame! I apologize for including SO MANY pics in this post, but I am just so excited to share these with some of my favorite people.

Let’s not forget about big brother. If you were meeting this family in person, you would never have to worry about him being a wallflower to his baby sister. I bet his parents are surprised that I got any photos of him that aren’t a big blur. This boy is always on the move!

Miss M was only 12 days old when I had the honor of photographing her and her family. Mom was a classmate of mine way back, and it was wonderful to meet her sweet family and get a glimpse of the charming life she has built.

Let’s not forget about big sister. Check out these eyes.
