"What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories."

My name is Jennifer Mendoza Stanelle. I photograph families, from newborns to great, great grandparents.

My goal is to create a portrait with you that captures where your family is in this moment in time, whether that is diapers, little league, braces, or beyond. My photographs are about you.

Visit my Portfolio pages for samples of my work. Keep in mind that if you choose to work with me, your photos will not be reproductions of what you see there. Your portraits will be as unique as your family. Just like you, my work is always evolving.

Follow me here on the blog (posts are below). You can also join me on Facebook or Twitter. In addition to photography, I am interested in being the best wife, mom, sister, friend, daughter and member of my community - locally and globally - I can be. I don't claim to be superwoman, by any means. It's a crazy juggling act in which I'm doing the best I can. Occasionally, I will blog about things that relate to those topics as well.

And to answer one of the questions I get asked most: You can call me Jen, Jenny, Jennifer, Mendoza or Stanelle. I get and respond to them all!

Common Sense

Posted on February 1, 2009

Oh, how I miss movies in the theater. Sticky floors, heart-clogging, butter-drenched popcorn, no laundry, laptop or little ones to distract me. In the 4.5 years since I’ve been a parent, I think the number of movies I’ve seen in a theater is in the single digits.

Mature as CM is, or maybe because she’s so intuitive,  I’m sensitive about what I want to expose her to. Not being very current on tv and movies myself, it’s hard for me to know what is or is not going to be okay. And I certainly don’t have time to preview movies or shows in advance for her. I found out about Common Sense from Rookie Moms. It seems to be a fairly balanced resource for finding out about what’s out there and then deciding for yourself if your kids are ready for it.

I guess we’re going to have to put Slumdog Millionaire on the Netflix queue. It will be number – and I’m not exaggerating – 369. At our current rate of one movie per month, that means I’ll see it when I reach my early sixties. According to T’s rules, the baby will  be old enough to date by then so there’s a chance I might get to go to the theater instead.
